The epigraphic Year is an annual French created by Ren Cagnat , then Chair of from the College de France in 1888. It was linked to the archaeological journal issue dated until 1964 , then became an independent publication of PUF receiving a grant from the CNRS , one part being written under his aegis.
Year epigraphic (abbreviated AE) systematically identifies all the inscriptions found each year on the Roman world , mostly in Latin or Greek , and published in periodicals around the world. It has become a very important tool for French and foreign researchers.

- 1888-1935: Ren Cagnat , first alone and then with Maurice Besnier until 1932, and finally with Alfred Merlin.
- 1936-1964: Alfred Merlin , with John Gage in some years.
- 1965: John Gage and Marcel Le Glay.
- 1966-1973: John Gage, Marcel Le Glay, Hans-Georg Pflaum and Pierre Wuilleumier.
- 1974 -1978: Andre Chastagnol , John Gage, Marcel Le Glay and H.-G. Pflaum.
