/ / Geography

Verneuil-en-Halatte, populated currently 4320 people, is a quiet village, nestling on the edge of the forest Halatte on the left bank of the Oise , upstream and north-east of Creil , and connected to Bridge Sainte-Maxence (further east) by the main road D120.

History

The site was occupied from the time Gallo-Roman times , as evidenced by the remains of the villa so-called "Bufosse.

It was then a manor belonging to the Comte de Saint-Pol , who prevailed on Philip Augustus.

The castle was commissioned by the Lord of Verneuil, Philippe IV Boulainvilliers the mid-sixteenth century. Without money, it had to resolve to sell the site to Jacques de Savoie-Nemours , who died without being able to finish it. His widow, Anne d'Este , sold the castle to Henry who gave it to his mistress, Catherine de Balzac Entragues , erecting earth in marquisate.

Louis XIV erected in the Duchy-peerage in 1652 to Henri de Bourbon-Verneuil , natural son of Henry IV and the Marchioness, who died childless in 1682.

In 1705 , the Princes of Conde, bought the castle they did demolish in 1734 because it was "the shadow" in the chateau of Chantilly. Year after year, the lush vegetation recovered the remains and the building disappeared ...

In 1987 , the municipality resolves to rescue what remains confident in the site at the Old Manor Club , which mobilizes young people to safeguard the monument. Since then, slowly recovered the remains of fallen splendor. It remains today as the low-lying areas of the castle. Serge Ramond Museum and the Friends of Verneuil old also played a role in this backup.
