Urmia Ourmiya or Urmiya ( Persian : , Azeri : Kurdish : Syriac : ; called , under the Pahlavi ) is a town in north-western Iran , the provincial capital of Azerbaijan Western. The city is located on the west shore of Lake Urmia , near the border of Turkey.
Urmia University was founded in 1878 by Joseph Cochran , a missionary Presbyterian U.S.. He also established a medical school that conducted with medical colleagues. Joseph Cochran and his team are based in an old cemetery around Urmia.
