Geography Torre Annunziata is a resort and spa (the term vesuviana were already active in the Roman period) at the foot of Vesuvius and facing the Gulf of Naples.

The table Peutinger is the ancient site of Oplontis the territory of Torre Annunziata.
Between 1964 and 1984 has been brought to light a luxurious villa of the Roman period (first century BC) alleged to have belonged to the People Poppea and perhaps Poppea , the second wife of Nero. More recently another imposing building, the Villa of Crassus, was discovered and excavations have revealed the presence of jewelry carved by an admirable art of jewelry.
Oplontis site, buried under the eruption of Vesuvius in 79, is included in the archaeological area of Pompeii, Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata registered by Unesco on the World Heritage List in 1997.
Economy
Torre Annunziata she was until recently the head of mechanical engineering and food with, in the 1950s, hundreds of pulp which is left a single company Pasta Setaro.
It is now home to marine industry and pharmaceuticals.
