History
San Venerio, born on the island of Palmaria , patron saint of the Gulf of La Spezia , lived as a hermit on the island of Tino until his death in 630. On the northern coast of the island are the remains of a monastery, probably built during the eleventh century on the foundations of the ancient sanctuary, built during the seventh century on the site where the saint died. At the top of the island is a lighthouse.
Access
The area of the Island of Tino is entirely used as a military zone. It is for this reason that, until very recently, it was possible to visit the island on the feast of the saint, the September 13th. As the island is a military territory, it is forbidden to land on the island and the surrounding area navigation is very secure and monitored.
