Thetis
In Greek mythology , Thetis (in ancient Greek / is a Nereid ( nymph Navy), daughter of Nereus and Doris (a Ocanide ). It should not be confused with Tethys , a marine deity paramount.

Myth
She was brought up by Hera. Zeus marries her against her will then Peleus , King of Phthia in Thessaly. In the Iliad , she declares:
"Only among the goddesses of the sea, Zeus got submittedAs a mortal, Peleus the acide, and brings
A bitter old age , the two gods are rushing to give her in marriage to a mortal.
Despite myself, in bed with a mortal, which drags in his palace

Several gods owe him: Dionysus first child who takes refuge with her, pursued by Lycurgus . It also collects Hephaestus when he was thrown from the Olympia . Finally, it saves Zeus chains when Athena , Hera and Poseidon want to imprison him, by using Briareos , one of Hecatonchires , to rescue .
Mother of seven son, she plunged into the fire to dispose of their mortal nature. Six can not resist them, Achilles , the seventh, is saved by his father. Thereafter, she devoted herself to her son, trying to preserve (by dipping in the Styx , according to some traditions) and prevent him from Troy , where she knows he will die. Although she had explained the choice that awaits (live long and unknown, or die young, but glorious), it fails.
She continues to help his son land Trojan: it intervenes with Zeus for it gives the advantage to the Trojans when Achilles withdraws into his tent . She then asks Hephaestus to build him a new weapon after that Hector has removed the remains of ancient Patroclus . She tries one last time to dissuade Hector to confront him predicting a near death if he goes there, but another time it fails.
