The Theban Necropolis is a vast necropolis on the west bank of the Nile , opposite Luxor in Egypt. It was used mainly in the New Kingdom. It is a tourist place classified world heritage of humanity. There are temples and tombs. The excavations are endless and the Egyptian authorities fail to curb theft, as the site is vast. The comings and goings of tourists keeps a good secure place. The Egyptian Antiquities Service estimates that 20% of objects found during excavations in the Theban necropolis disappear into the hands of tourists, but it is nevertheless impossible to conduct a systematic search of bags as the tourist flow is important.
