Politics
The mayor and the borough council
Frederick Edward Smith was the figurehead of the borough for more than half a century, not only as a member but also as a representative of the 7th arrondissement of Paris to the Council and Mayor in 1983 until his death in February 1995.
Martine Aurillac ( RPR ), his first deputy, succeeded him as mayor in 1995 before giving way to Michel Dumont in June 2002 , following his re-election of MP ( UMP ) in the third district of Paris.
In the municipal elections of March 2008 , the Justice Minister, Rachida Dati , was the head of UMP in the borough. She narrowly missed being elected in the first round, winning 49.5% of the votes against 22.71% for the Socialist candidate Laurence Girard and 15.69% Veronique Delvolv-Rosset ( MODEM ). She was elected to the second round with 57.69% of the votes cast (9,934 votes) against 27.18% at Laurence Girard (4680 votes) and 15.14% Veronique Delvov-Rosset (2607 votes).
Advisors Paris's 7th arrondissement
The five advisers of Paris under the 7 th District were all elected on the list UMP / New Center led by Rachida Dati in March 2008. This is Rachida Dati, Michel Dumont, Emmanuelle Dauvergne , Yves Pozzo di Borgo and Martine Namy-Caulier.
The national politicians of the 7th arrondissement
Edward Frederick Smith was elected member of the 7th arrondissement in 1936 and then, except for brief periods, constantly re-election of the Liberation until 1993.
Legislative elections of March 1993 in the third district of Paris , which includes the entire 7th and the northern half of the 6th, Michel Roussin ( RPR ) was elected in the first round succeeding Edward Frederick Smith.
Appointed as Minister of Cooperation in the government of Edouard Balladur , Michel Roussin was replaced by his deputy, Mrs Martine Aurillac. It is elected as a candidate licensee, early parliamentary elections in 1997 and general elections in 2002. During parliamentary elections in June 2007 , Martine Aurillac ( UMP ) was elected the first round with 59% of the vote.
Since September 2004 , among the senators of Paris, only Yves Pozzo di Borgo, UDF, was elected the 7th.
Elections
In legislative elections as local elections, all candidates get the right generally between 60 and 80% of the votes (83% in the first round of municipal elections in 1983).
Since the death of Edward Frederick Smith in 1995 , there is usually a systematic list of dissenting right or center that presents itself in front of the list submitted by the RPR and the UMP. In 1997 , Jean-Philippe Hubin ran under the banner of MPF and was featured in the European elections of 1999 on the list UDF of Franois Bayrou. In the municipal elections of 2001 , Jean-Philippe Hubin was top of the list Tiberi and his presence in the second round against the list led by Martine Aurillac, without preventing the victory of the latter, has nevertheless contributed to the election for the first time adviser Socialist Paris under the 7 th District.
In the referendum on the Treaty on the Constitution for Europe , the "yes" came out ahead in the 7th (80.5%).
In the first round of the 2007 presidential election , Nicolas Sarkozy arrived well ahead of candidates with 55.98% of votes to Francois Bayrou (20.35%), Sgolne Royal (15.35%) and Jean-Marie Le Pen (4.37%). In the second round, Nicolas Sarkozy won 74.75% against 25.25% for his socialist opponent ..
