Scilla is a genus of herbaceous monocots, squill true. It belongs to the family Liliaceae according to the classification standard. Phylogenetic classification places it in the family Hyacinthaceae (or optionally in one of Asparagaceae ).

Recent studies using DNA sequencing showed that the species classified in genus Scilla have a different phylogeny. Spets Franz has proposed to divide the genus in and 16 new genera. These studies also show that gender should be included in the genus

Genre Oncostema

  • Oncostema peruviana (L.) Spets (Syn.: Scilla peruviana L.), the Peruvian squill hyacinth or Peru, and Madeira Mediterranean plant, locally introduced in France, has absolutely nothing to Peru. The vernacular name (wrong) comes from the name of the boat (Peru) through which the first bulbs of this species were imported to England.
  • Oncostema elongata (Parl.) Spets (Syn.: Scilla elongata Parl.), A species very similar to that meeting Oncostema peruviana in Sardinia and Sicily
  • Oncostema hughii (Tineo ex Guss.) Spets (Syn.: Tineo ex Guss Scilla hughii.), Another very similar species that also found in Sicily.
