Historical Milestones Promising debut
FC Zaragoza (Zaragoza and FC) was officially born March 18, 1932 from the merger of the two rival clubs of the city, Zaragoza CD (itself founded in 1925 by merging the Stadium of FC and FC Zaragoza) and the club Iberia SD. Jose Maria Gayarre became the first president of this club who play their first friendly match two days after its founding team of cons Valladolid (4-0 win with goals from Rolloso (2), and Zorroza Anduiza) in the ancient wall Iberia SD, Torrero, who becomes the stadium of the newly created.
During the 1930s, the team of Zaragoza continues to grow with a generation of talented players, but the Alife Spanish Civil War cut short their ascent to the heights and the Liga.
The dark years of 1940 and 1950
The dark years spent in Spain and the championship resumes. But in the years 1940 and 1950, Real Zaragoza do not play the leading roles, alternating between the club Aragon climbs and descents in First Division and passages more or less in the lower division.
On March 30, 1951, the club was renamed Real Zaragoza CD, its current name and hosting on its emblem the royal insignia.
On September 8, 1957, Real left his original stage of Torrero (sold to pay off the debts of the club) and playing in his first meeting in his new cabinet The Romareda.
The Golden Age of the 1960s
The years following the installation in the new forum coincides with a boom for the club successful big shots on the transfer market and brings him his first trophy. In 1964 the club won its first Copa del Rey final by beating the Atletico Madrid 2-1 (with goals from Villa and Lapetra. The same year, the Aragonese removes the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup , the forerunner of Cups in Europe by winning 2-1 in the final against Valencia CF in the Nou Camp in Barcelona (goals from Villa and Marcelino). The team, nicknamed Los Magnificos, finished each season in the top five of the championship between 1961 and 1969 4 times consecutively and reach the final of the Copa del Rey in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966 (two vctoires in 1964 and 1966). During the 1961-1962 season , and for the first and so far last time History of the club a player on the team Aragon, Peruvian Juan Seminario with 25 goals is Pichichi , that is to say, top scorer in the Championship. Canario, Eleuterio Santos, Marcelino Martnez , Juan Manuel Villa, Severino Reija or Carlos Lapetra are the other heroes of this golden period.
Subsequently, Zaragoza also reached the semi final of the Cup Winners Cup in 1965 (defeated by West Ham the eventual winner) and tilts slightly Final Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1965-1966 against the FC Barcelona ( defeated 4-2 in the stage of La Romareda won 1-0 after the first leg at the Nou Camp.
Crossing the desert of the 1970s and 1980s
The departure of several players leading the club coincided with the decline of the Aragonese irremediable in the late 1960s. The fans do not know yet but they will have to wait twenty years (the Spanish Cup in 1986) to see the captain of their favorite team lift a trophy again. Despite the lean times, the game offered by the Aragonese is interesting and spectacular thanks to the large South American diaspora present on the banks of the Ebro. This team of the 1970s is also known as Los Zaraguayos name of Paraguayans and Uruguayans who compose the team: "Cacho" Blanco, Soto, "Lobo" Diarte, Ocampo and especially "Nino" Arrue considered one of the best South American players of the era. During the season 1973-1974 , the men left behind, however Carriega 3rd place in the standings. The following season, Zaragoza wins for the third time in its history instead of Vice-Champion, beating FC Barcelona in the last day. While the club seems to know a spectacular recovery, Real knows a sad season 1975-1976 (14 th) before being relegated the following season in Segunda Divisin. The stay in purgatory lasts only one year but the momentum is broken. The club struggles along the soft underbelly of the Championship until the 1985-1986 season or men Luis Costa reached fourth place in the standings wins, and especially the Spanish Cup against the FC Barcelona (1-0 victory at Vicente Calderon Stadium Madrid thanks to a goal by Ruben Sosa ) after removal of the Real Madrid in the semi-finals. This is the first title of the club (except the title of Champion of D2 in 1978) for 20 years. The club continues the momentum of this great Cup run, reaching the semifinals of the Cup Winners' Cup 1987 beaten only by the Ajax Amsterdam (after removal of the Roma in the first round).
The success of Vctor Fernndez
The club then falls a few years in the soft underbelly of anonymity (even flirting with relegation in the 1990-1991 season ), but up the slope under the leadership of a young coach of 30 years, Vctor Fernndez which requires its team a spectacular game. After reaching the final of the King's Cup 1993 (2-0 defeat at Real Madrid , and took his revenge the following year at the 1994 edition (0-0 victory on penalties and face Celta Vigo ), Zaragoza won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1995 , taking on the best English of Arsenal in the final (2-1 aet) 10 May 1995 after having previously released the Feyenoord and Chelsea. This particular finish is marked by a fantastic goal scored from midfield and half-volley by Nayim which lobe English goalkeeper David Seaman in the last minute of extra time of the meeting. Bowing next season in UEFA Super Cup against the Ajax Amsterdam ( 1-1 0-4), the Spaniards can not keep their Cup Winners' Cup being released by Deportivo La Coruna (0-1 1-1) in the 1995-1996 edition. This elimination symbolically marks the end of this spectacular team set up by Fernandez (including Juan Eduardo Esnider , Alberto Belsu or Gustavo Poyet ) who leaves the club in November 1996 after tensions with various members of his locker.
The 2000s
Starting in 2001, Real Zaragoza who suffered some molting with the departure of many older executives won the Copa del Rey (3-1 win against Celta Vigo in the final) after a nice 4 {e} places in Championship during the 1999-2000 season. They have such success with an excellent defense and the talent of striker Savo Miloevi ). But after the decade is much more difficult for the Aragonese who are relegated after the 2001-2002 season. Back in the elite during the 2004-2005 season , the club was purchased in May 2006 by the ambitious Agapito Iglesias who wants to Real one of the biggest teams in Europe. It invests 11 million euros aisni on Pablo Aimar who is quickly becoming one of the darlings of the public. Associated with Diego Milito , Zaragoza attack worked wonders and Real wins a beautiful 6 {e} up to the end of the season 2006-2007. Despite the performance of Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira (17 goals) and Milito (15 goals), the 2007-2008 season is completely missed in the Aragonese who, surprise, ending 18 {e} and ranked in descending Segunda B. The three coaches who took turns in that year could not prevent the disaster of the raid.
But the club has the resources and goes back to the first division the following year by denying the climb until the last day and a 2-2 draw at Rayo Vallecano (goals from David Generelo and Francisco Pavon. They finished the 2009-2010 season to an anonymous 14 {e} places.
