Summary

/ / Introduction

Tarek Ben Yakhlef and Sylvain Doriath have designed this book as a collection of words given to taggers and graffiti artists-and a kind of sketch-books: they tell us about their disciplines, their motivations, their state of mind their approach and confide their feelings about the reactions of society against this phenomenon. The pages devoted to the artists allow beginners to immerse themselves in a medium city where signs, lines, colors, shapes are just the continuation of an ancient practice: to mark his passing.

Paris became the capital of graffiti

The authors trace the successive stages of evolution of plastic graffiti in Paris since 1985. Several books since agreed that the graffiti in Paris, performed by artists from different countries, has crossed a milestone this time since he supplanted the New York-style as claimed Futura 2000. Graffiti is a movement in itself, with ideas and concise rules: a tag on a building in the nineteenth century, a subway, along a rail or in a vacant lot is not limited to the inclusion of a nickname but also in search of a calligraphic and typographic marking the spirits. Often, the youth in question began on a class table or on a piece of scrap paper with a pencil, a ballpoint pen or a felt, continuing on a wall with a spray or on a subway seat with a marker, then it ends up in a paint shop when it chooses to persevere. It is certainly a movement born in the United States in 1971 with Taki 183 , confirmed by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring in New York and exported by other artists in every industrialized country but it has gained new impetus France. The authors show how the years 1987-1991 can be regarded as a major turning point.

Historical and Sociological

They attach themselves and to make us understand their logic of interpretation of the company and its lures. Be aware that a tagger is not necessarily an offender from lower-income neighborhoods but often it comes from a middle rather encouraged. The urban element as work support becomes the ideal space of expression for these young painters. In 1991, graffiti tags and proliferate in Paris and its suburbs. This book helps to tell this story and that of land as the land of Stalingrad (Paris XIX), the site of the Louvre Pyramid, the deposits of the metro, RER or SNCF. These artistic compositions of an ephemeral art despite his drawings are accompanied by the graffiti themselves and interviews defining a new order of thought. Painting techniques, styles, motivations and the leitmotif of these taggers and graffiti artists are also addressed to the reader to understand the approach of those who define themselves as "writer".

Conclusion

From diverse backgrounds and "writers" have all the same passion, the pleasure of writing, and the same desire, to be recognized. Communication within this group is both wall and oral. The exploits are passed by word of mouth until the absolute distortion of reality sometimes creating complicated situations: cleaning, fighting ... To understand the minds and motivations of these, it is important to see how they change over time and space, explaining the tricks and techniques used in the attempt to exploit ever more dangerous. Paris Tonkar seeks to show it all and giving an overview of this artistic phenomenon.
