Malatya in Kurdish , in Armenian ) is a city in Turkey , Prefecture of the province of the same name. Malatya population is mainly Kurdish and Turkish , but the city also hosts a minority Armenian. It has 381,081 inhabitants (2000).

History
Malatya is the former Melitene the time of the Crusades , and the birthplace of St. Euthyme ( 377 - 473 ) one of the founders of monasticism Byzantine in Palestine.

In April 2007 , three missionaries Protestants , two Turks and a German , have been tortured and murdered .

The city of Malatya is a major producer of apricots , sold worldwide, including in their dried form.
