Luxor (Luxor or French) ( Arabic : Al Uqsur) is a city located on the right bank of the Nile in Upper Egypt , located about 700 km south of Cairo and about 300 km north of Aswan. According to the 2006 census - all of whom live directly or indirectly from tourism - which puts it the ninth largest Egyptian cities.
This is the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes.
The site of Luxor, with over four million visitors a year, is one of the most touristic places of Egypt and is the southern part of ancient Thebes. His temple, linked to that of Karnak by a dromos , long driveway lined with sphinxes , was built in - XIV century in the reign of Amenhotep III. It was subsequently amended by Ramses II , who added including six monumental statues and two obelisks, one of which one , offered to France in 1831, adorns since the Place de la Concorde in Paris.
