The Spanish league is the elite of the It often uses the misnomer of "Liga" to refer to this competition, but only means Liga Spanish league. The antechamber of the elite is called Segunda Divisin.
Summary |
Before 1928 , the only test Spanish national character is the Copa del Rey , the Spanish Cup. Under the leadership of Jose Maria Acha, the idea of a national championship is set in April 1927. This competition is finally receiving the approval of the Spanish Federation on 23 November 1928. To form the first Primera Divisin history, some courses are automatically qualified due to their past performance: Athletic Bilbao , FC Barcelona , Real Madrid , Real Sociedad , Union de Irun , Espanyol Barcelona , Barcelona CD Europe and Atletico de Madrid. A playoff tournament pitting ten clubs are established to designate the tenth and final member of the Primera Divisin. The Real Racing Santander won in the final at this tournament to face Sevilla , reversed in Segunda Divisin (D2), also created in 1928 - 1929. The first day of the championship takes place on 10 February 1929. Primera remains to ten clubs until 1934 , then increased to 12 clubs.
The war with Spain put football on hold between 1936 and 1939 , the date of the next championship, which starts again with 12 clubs. 14 clubs in 1941 , 16 in 1950 , 18 in 1971 and 20 since 1987. Seasons in 1995 - in 1996 and one thousand nine hundred and ninety-six - 1,997 compete exceptionally at 22 clubs due to use of clubs not wanting to be relegated administratively 2 B , the Sevilla and Celta Vigo are respectively 5 and 13th.
Format
The number of teams participating in Championship Primera Divisin increases gradually from 10 teams during the first season 1928-1929, to 12 teams in 1934, 14 teams in 1941, 16 teams in 1950, 18 teams in 1971 and 20 teams in 1987. During the seasons 1995-1996 and 1996-1997 , the number of clubs taking part in the championship is temporarily increased to 22 following the reintegration of clubs were initially administratively demoted because of their debt.
The league table is drawn up following a series of games return in which each club meeting the other teams once home and once outside. The season 1986-1987 was an exception to this principle, the final ranking is determined after a second phase consisting of three mini-leagues involving teams ranked in respectively the first, second and third period of the first phase of ticket matches return.
At the end of the season, the first four to qualify for the ranking Champions League UEFA , the fourth to first go through the preliminary round of the competition. The fifth and sixth are qualified for the Europa League.
