KV 63 is the name given to the last tomb discovered in the Valley of the Kings in 2006 , in the Theban necropolis on the west bank of the Nile opposite to Luxor in Egypt , the team of archaeologists from the University of Memphis (United States United) led by Otto J. Schaden. The previous discovery dated back to 1922, the tomb of the pharaoh inviolate Tutankhamun ( KV62 ).
She was discovered four feet below ground level, buried under rubble and stones from the excavation of graves and posterior natural landslide, and only five meters from the tomb of Tutankhamun. KV 63 was originally planned for Kiya , mother of the pharaoh.
The tomb contained a rectangular twenty large jars sealed with the royal seals and five mummies with colored funerary masks resting in wooden sarcophagi inviolate.
The comprehensive study of the tomb will take time, but early tests provided by Zahi Hawass (head of the Supreme Council of Antiquities ) suggest that it dates from the eighteenth dynasty and was intended for the wife or the son of a ruler or a priest or a senior officer of the court. It seems likely that this small tomb (3 m) was originally scheduled to receive only a sarcophagus. It is not known yet if the sponsor of the tomb is one of five mummies found or whether the objects in the tomb are his contemporaries. The chaotic arrangement of the jars suggests that the burial (at least the last one) could have been done in haste.
