Jet Set Radio (Jet Grind Radio entitled to U.S. due to a U.S. radio station already bearing that name) is a video game console for the Dreamcast from Sega. It was developed by Smilebit , an internal development team at Sega, and released in 2000. After several complaints from Japanese players (bugs and questionable sound quality), Sega released on 1 January 2001 a new version called De La Jet Set Radio (the equivalent of Jet Grind Radio). It will be available only in Japan and worldwide.
This is one of the few games featuring acts of vandalism that was not controversial. For many, this game is a cult, especially for fans of Sega (but not only). This can be attributed to the fact that the game was a commercial failure, as the Dreamcast, while the critics were very positive.
Summary |
The game looks like, somehow, to extreme sports games because the player must traverse various street skating by making figures of speech. The main purpose of Jet Set Radio is to tag the streets of the two semi-fictional cities, Tokyo-To (heavily inspired by Tokyo ) and Grind City (incarnation of New York ). The police (part of the game - Tokyo-TB only), rival gangs and the Golden Rhinos, copied from gangsters mafiosi (second part of the game) chasing the band "G-G" (the gang "Rudies" that constitute the choice of the player characters).
