The historic center of Rome is an urban space that represents a set of monuments of outstanding value universally recognized.

Founded by legend -753 on the banks of the Tiber , Rome has been constantly associated with the history of mankind. First, the center of the Roman Republic , it dominates the world for five centuries as the capital of the Empire , and later became one of the Christian world today.

The historic center of Rome is a first classified in 1980 in a limited space at the walled enclosure called the Aurelian Wall built 272 to 282.

In consultation with the Holy See and Italy , the Committee of Unesco in a spirit of consistency, in 1990 , expanding enrollment in the chamber 1643 to Urban VIII to include three buildings (extra- territorial) ^{The territory is divided into 22 recorded areas (in Italian; rioni).}
