Gijon is a city on the coast of Cantabria in the province of Asturias and Asturias in Spain. His name in Asturian is Xixn.

Location: The town is located in the middle of the Asturian coast, between 0 and 513 meters above sea level (peak San Martn), bounded on the west by Carreo , east by Villaviciosa and south by Siero and Llanera.

The city is built on the coast, and the center is divided by Cimadevilla peninsula that separates the beach of San Lorenzo to the east of the marina, the beaches of Poniente and Arbeyal, arsenal and port of Musel west.

Area: 181.6 sq km

Access: Motorway A-66 (Route de La Plata), A-8 (Highway Cantabria) and AS-1 (Highway Minera). By train, Gijn has daily connections to cities such as Madrid, Alicante, Zaragoza and Barcelona. There are also boats that arrive at the port of Musel.

Climate: Oceanic, hot summers alternate with sunny days and cloudy. In winter the climate is mild, more or less rainy and windy, however, sometimes the cold climate of Asturias and the north is pointed out by snow at sea level

The population of the town is 380 000. The city proper has a population of 290 000 inhabitants.
