Fort Cormeilles-en-Parisis is one of the largest military forts of Ile-de-France.
" History
Cormeilles Fort was built between 1874 and 1877 under the plan established by the general fortifying Sere de Rivieres , and it is part of the fortress of Paris. This book, although it was not the most important of the overall defense of the capital, however, drew its commanding position near the confluence of the Seine, a significant strategic value. Fort Cormeilles had 64 guns and 1095 necessitated his guard troops, 36 officers and 14 horses, with 3 months supply.
Anti-aircraft guns of 75 mm were positioned there in 1914 to try to kill the Zeppelins came and bombed Paris. In the early 1930s , the General Staff of 407 ANCL is installed, four 75mm guns are set up in the vat "Cavalier".
A company of riflemen in Moroccan custody from 1944 and was used as a prison until 1956. Officials from the Department of Justice are housed a large majority of families of prison guards who work in remote locations such as the Fresnes prison. These families are housed in the "cross-shelter" of the escarpment and the "Cavalier" is a nursery school in a prefabricated building constructed in front of flag officers.
The last families - mainly Harkis and family of the guard - leaving the fort in the early 1970's. The army resumed full management by 1965 and 23 th RIMa of Maisons-Laffitte in 1967 to install a center of initiation commando who operate until 1997.
It is now owned by the Green Spaces Agency of the Ile-de-France , which has entrusted the management of the Association of Friends of Fort Cormeilles. The association's goal is to save and restore the site while doing live there for the installation of artists' studios and film shoots. Tours are held the first Sunday of each month and during certain events such as the European Heritage Days.
Film
Because of its size, the variety of its buildings, its network of galleries and its proximity to the capital, Fort Cormeilles is regularly used as a backdrop to the cinema (film about four per year).
