Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art is a foundation created in 1984 by Alain-Dominique Perrin. It is a foundation of French ' contemporary art society Cartier SA. Formerly located in Jouy-en-Josas , situated since 1994 on the Boulevard Raspail in Paris , in a building designed by architect Jean Nouvel.

Fondation Cartier was first located in the area of Montcel in Jouy-en-Josas , from 1984 to 1993. However, in the late 1980s, the American Center, a cultural center, decided to leave its premises at Boulevard Raspail he held since 1934 to settle in the district of Bercy. The foundation gave the architect Jean Nouvel, the task of producing a new building. It was inaugurated in 1994 Art Project Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art's goal since 1984 to promote and support the international contemporary art through various activities (fund new acquisitions, exhibitions, shows, publishing books, catalogs, and entertainment). The foundation promotes and assists the discovery of new French and foreign artists. It includes various activities such as painting , the sculpture , the video image , the sound , the design , the photography ... Own collection to the foundation consists mainly of works representing the major trends of every major contemporary trends since the 1980s , with a specificity of acquiring works of large dimensions. The foundation is also open on the art of other cultures (American, African and Asian). To date the fund has more eclectic than 1000 works from 300 different artists. The foundation aims to be the source of new artistic trends and organizes annual cultural events such as Nomadic Nights in promoting places of musical performances, poetry, dance, or fashion shows. The foundation has organized several major exhibitions like the one dedicated in 2003 to the Yanomami Indians of the Amazon , or 2005 that highlighting the work of Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto. She developed the occasion of its twentieth anniversary partnership with Nikon to introduce children to the photograph.
