Flora
The flora is the set of species plant present in a geographic area or ecosystem specific (as opposed to wildlife ). The term "plant" includes all microorganisms (except viruses that are not "living") present in a given location. We talk about gut flora or skin for the bacteria in the gut or the skin surface, for example.
By extension, it also means the atlas listing and describing these species and used to identify plants (identify). The number of species being described as very important, most floras for the general public are often limited to vascular plants or seed plants and their main species.
Collections of specimens used to define species differences are preserved in herbaria. This network of herbaria worldwide is very important. Is the reference that allows botanists to navigate and to the point between the old names and discoveries and current identifications.
One should not confuse the term with the flora of vegetation : the flora of a geographical area is the list of plants from that area (Alpine flora, fauna of the Paris Basin flora of England, etc..), the vegetation is the combination of certain plants in plant communities determined by a specific flora and dominance of a biological type. Thus, we can recognize forests , the prairies, savannas and shrublands , of cultures , the moors , and bogs , etc.. (See phytosociology ).
