Epenthesis

In linguistics , the epenthesis (feminine noun) of the Greek (and more) ("in") and ("pose") or ("intercalation of a letter," synonymous Latin : Phonetics

Oxford dictionary for the "epenthesis occurs to soften the language of the joints that did not used to say." The phoneme epenthetic interspersed mostly between two consonants and borrows some features of the phoneme of the phoneme before and after: the point of articulation , the manner of articulation , or voicing.

The origin of the word French chamber provides an example of epenthesis in diachrony. The Latin spoken in the Roman Empire in the early centuries of our era loses its linguistic unity. In Gaul is one of amussement / e / in unstressed syllables. The word camera, pronounced / kamera / in Classical Latin , weakens / kamra /, thus bringing together the two consonants / m / and / r /. A transitional consonant / b / is naturally made by the speakers (not in effect, in French, to utter a word aloud as camra without a / b / appear between / m / and / r /). Epenthetic consonant / b / borrows / m / which precedes its articulation point bilabial and mode of articulation occlusive , and / r / after the fact of not being nasal (otherwise it would remain on / m / which is nasal and labial) and to be sound (otherwise, the epenthesis would be a / p / who is deaf and lip)

The same phenomenon is observed in the evolution from Latin to French numerus number

Articulatory difficulty is also the cause of epenthesis in synchrony with the same results. For example, an epenthetic consonant / b / transition can be heard between the two words the phrase vowel phonemes: / b fnm vokalik /. The / b / borrows / m / which precedes its articulation point bilabial and mode of articulation occlusive , and / v / after the fact of not being nasal and being deaf.

When is a vowel which falls between two consonants, it is referred to svarabhakti. The two phenomena are covered by the term Anaptyxis.

Movement

The epenthesis as a figure of style adding a phoneme or a syllable within a word, so as to facilitate the joint or to produce effects stylistic features: metric , rhythmic and mostly humorous and satirical.

The epenthesis is distinct from Pataqus , who is an honest mistake and not a stylistic alteration (eg., "That the reactions aroused").

z-parent child
