Doctor Who is a television series Britain from science fiction. The series includes 679 original episodes of 26 minutes (including 255 black and white), 15 episodes of 45 minutes and a 90-minute episode, created by Sydney Newman and Donald Wilson and broadcast from 23 November 1963 to 6 December 1989 on BBC One. This is the longest series of science-fiction world Synopsis

This series chronicles the adventures of the Doctor , an alien , a Time Lord (Time Lord) from the planet Gallifrey. In the first series, banished by his people, he traveled aboard a TARDIS (T ime A nd R ELATIONS D IMENSIONS (s) I n S pace, T ime to r or D elativit imensionnelle i nter S Patiala in French) , a machine that can travel in space and time. Particularly attached to the Earth , it is regularly accompanied in his travels by companions for most people.

The TARDIS has the appearance of a British police telephone box of the 1950s, the camouflage system is stuck in an accident. Indeed, the machine becomes normal in real time to resemble a typical element of its environment.

Like all Time Lord , the Doctor has the power to regenerate, that is to say, change in personality and appearance, instead of dying. It seems that this method works only twelve times in his view, although he once said he could go up to five hundred regenerations.

In the second series, the Doctor is the last survivor of his race, destroyed by the great war of the time against the Daleks , the worst enemies of the Doctor.

History

The logos of the series between 1963 and 1996

Doctor Who appeared for the first time on television at 17:15 (GMT) on 23 November 1963 . The principal creators of the series were Sydney Newman (Director of Drama at the BBC ) and writers Anthony Coburn and David Whitaker and the first producer of the program, Verity Lambert. (In one episode in 2007 , the Doctor claims to be a human being whose parents are named Sydney and Verity).

The generic music, composed by Ron Grainer , was conducted by Delia Derbyshire of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop . The program was originally to please adults and children . The department of the BBC series has produced 26 seasons, broadcast on BBC One. A loss of audience and interest among viewers, and a broadcasting slot less important were responsible for suspension of the series in 1989 , by Jonathan Powell, head of BBC One. However, the BBC claimed that the series would return.

During the years following the cessation of the series, the BBC hoped to find another production company to relaunch Doctor Who. Philip Segal, a British expatriate who worked for the American branch of Columbia Pictures , made several proposals to the BBC. These negotiations resulted, ultimately, a TV movie. This TV movie , which bears no real name in English but in France, is named The Lord of Time , aired on Fox in 1996 as a co-production between Fox , Universal Pictures , the BBC and the BBC Worldwide. Although the movie was a hit in the UK (with 9.1 million viewers), he did not have as much to the United States and does not result in a new series.

Many products continued to be produced, such books where you can continue to discover new adventures of Doctor , but the project back on TV not be realized until 2003.

Indeed, in September 2003 after several years of fruitless searching of BBC Worldwide to find a producer for a film, the BBC announced the return of the series on television. The new series is produced by screenwriter Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner for BBC Wales and is the direct result of a series of one thousand nine hundred sixty-three - one thousand nine hundred and eighty-nine and TV movie of 1996 , rather than a new version of the concept.

Broadcast rights have been sold to many other countries, including France.

Four seasons of 13 episodes each were produced between 2005 and 2008 and the special episodes aired on Christmas the same year.

In 2009 the program marks a break with only four episodes Occasional which conclude the saga of the 10th Doctor. It regenerates in the last of these episodes, broadcast on New Year's Day 2010.

Doctor Who is back for season 5 in May-July 2010 . On this occasion, Russell T Davies has spent his hand as producer Steven Moffat and David Tennant to Matt Smith .

The 6 th season, still led by Steven Moffat will be divided into two parts: the first (seven episodes) likely will end on a cliffhanger and the second part (six episodes) will air in fall 2011 .

Reception by the public

The series quickly became an institution in the United Kingdom , whereas in France it was a success and a more mixed chaotic scattering.

Mary Whitehouse , a campaigner for morality and decency, complained repeatedly to the BBC , in the year 1970 because of the frightening and violent elements. However, the program continued to become increasingly popular, especially among children. During the second season of Jon Pertwee (Third Doctor), in the episode Terror of the Auton ( 1971 ), images of murderous dolls killing innocent marked Doctor Who's ability to frighten younger children.

The image of terrified children hiding behind a couch during the scariest moments from Doctor Who has passed the term behind-the-sofa (behind the sofa) in the current language.

In 1972 , an investigation by the BBC proved that Doctor Who was the most violent series then produced by the BBC. However, the same survey found that only 3% of viewers surveyed found the program inappropriate to be viewed as a family.

The image of the TARDIS , the ship's doctor , quickly became very attached to the series. In 1996 , the BBC marked the TARDIS as a trademark for any commercial use. In 1998 , the Police objected to this trademark. Finally, the BBC kept it because it was decided that the image of the police car was more attached to Doctor Who than the police.

The new series has now become a central piece of the Grille chain BBC One and BBC HD. In 2007 , the journalist from Times Caitlin Moran went on to describe the Doctor Who as the quintessence of being British.

Episodes

The first series was 26 seasons, broadcast on BBC One from 23 November 1963 to 6 December 1989. In the old series, each weekly episode formed part of a story (or drama, the term used in English as serial). These stories were therefore composed of 4 to 6 episodes in the early years, and 3 to 4 more later. But there were exceptions, including The Daleks' Master Plan , which consisted of 12 episodes, plus an episode which caused the plot, and in which neither the Doctor nor his companions appeared. In the other major operas in the series, we find The War Games , which was composed of 10 episodes, and The Trial of a Time Lord who has held season 14 episodes 23.

Doctor Who would be an educational series, and addressing the whole family. The series was then broadcast on Sunday mornings. Initially, it alternated stories taking place in the past, which should teach young viewers the history and stories taking place in the future or space to teach them science. This educational aim is also marked by the first companions of the Doctor , since one of them was a history teacher and one a science teacher.

But science fiction eventually becomes increasingly common, and historical episodes were arrested after The Highlanders ( 1967 ). The series continued to use historical elements, but they were generally used as a backdrop for a story of science fiction. There was one exception: Black Orchid , which happens entirely in the 1920s in Great Britain.

The episodes of the first Doctor Who series were written by many different writers including: Terry Nation (creator of the Daleks ), Henry Lincoln , Douglas Adams , Robert Holmes , Terrance Dicks , Dennis Spooner , Eric Saward , Malcolm Hulke , Christopher H. Bidmead , Stephen Gallagher , Brian Hayles , Chris Boucher , Marc Platt and Ben Aaronovitch.

The format of episodes has changed for the new series. Each season now includes 13 episodes of 45 minutes (until season 4 of it). Some episodes have their own history, while others are related to several other episodes. All episodes are linked by a common history, a narrative arc in the background during most of the episodes and which is not resolved at the end of the season in the finale. As in the old series, each episode has its own title, even if it is part of a whole.

752 episodes have been broadcast since 1963 , ranging from episodes of 25 minutes (the most common format) to those 45 minutes ( Resurrection of the Daleks in 1984 , an episode in 1985 , and the new series), and the two feature films ( The Five Doctors in 1983 and the TV movie The Lord of Time in 1996 ). Do not forget the special Christmas episodes, lasting between 60 minutes (episodes 2005 , 2006 , 2008 and 2009 ) and 72 minutes (for the 2007, a cruise around the Earth ).

The current series is filmed in 576i25 DigiBeta , widescreen format.

Lost Episodes

Between 1967 and 1978 , much of the recordings on various formats owned by the BBC were destroyed or simply erased. Among those records destroyed, there were many old episodes of Doctor Who, especially those with the first three Doctors ( William Hartnell , Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee ). In all, 108 of the 253 episodes produced during the first six years of the series are not owned by the archives of the BBC. However, the BBC stopped to wipe his tapes in 1978 , and the loss of the episodes ended.

Several episodes have been returned to the BBC , from the archives of other countries that had aired the series. Recordings made by fans and the footage in other programs have also been recovered. Furthermore, audio versions of all episodes are lost, made by viewers who have made a recording of the program.

One of the most important spare time for the episode featuring the regeneration of William Hartnell (First Doctor) in the fourth part of the episode The Tenth Planet ( 1966 ). The only record we have of this episode is a silent 8 mm film of very poor quality, showing only a few seconds of regeneration.

All episodes featuring the Third Doctor, played by Pertwee Jon , have been recovered, but it remains to this day a number of episodes lost among the periods of the first two Doctors. The period with the most episodes missing is the Second Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton.

Now, with the approval of the BBC , efforts are being made to restore as much as possible the lost episodes, from what remains. From the early 1990 , the BBC began to release records of these episodes audio cassette and CD. Reconstructions "official" were also marketed by the BBC in MP3 and VHS and CD-ROM , and as a bonus on certain DVDs. The BBC , in cooperation with animation studios Cosgrove Hall , rebuilt parts 1 and 4 of the episode The Invasion ( 1968 ), as a cartoon. Although no further reconstruction of this type has been announced, Cosgrove Hall has expressed his desire to rebuild other lost episodes. But the draft has been announced in April 2007 as undefined.

In April 2006 , the show Blue Peter launched a challenge to find these lost episodes, with the promise of a Dalek size for people contributing.

Characters

The Doctor

Main article: The Doctor (Doctor Who).

The character of the Doctor was initially shrouded in mystery. In the first episode, everything was known about him was that it was an eccentric scholar of great intelligence, who fought injustices during his travels through time and space in his travel machine time named TARDIS , which means T ime A nd R ELATIONS D IMENSIONS (s) I n S pace. The latter is larger inside than outside, and, following a failure of its system of camouflage is stuck in the appearance of a police car into English 1950.

The Doctor is a Time Lord , from the planet Gallifrey. Extraterrestrial nature was gradually revealed, as and as the universe of the series was expanded by screenwriters. As a Time Lord , the Doctor has the ability to regenerate when he died, and resurrected in another guise. This option has been introduced by the scriptwriters on the departure of William Hartnell in 1966 in order to perpetuate the series. Subsequently, regeneration has become a major element of the series, that can change an actor. In the episode "The Deadly Assassin, it is said that a Time Lord can regenerate 12 times, and may be 13 different bodies. That said, later it was reported that the doctor can regenerate itself indefinitely . Finally, in the double episode Death of the Doctor series The Sarah Jane Adventures , Doctor finally gave a definitive answer, stating that while he is able to regenerate itself 507 times.

Currently, the Doctor has regenerated 10 times, and is in its eleventh incarnation.

Each of its 11 incarnations had her own talents and character, while keeping the memory of its previous incarnations.

Other actors have played the Doctor , though rarely more than once.

Despite all these different incarnations, the Doctor has always been distinguished by great intellectual curiosity, which motivates him in his travels. He prefers his intelligence rather than violence to solve its problems.

Throughout the history of the program, some revelations about the Doctor have been very controversial. For example, in The Brain of Morbius ( 1976 ), it is suggested that the First Doctor was perhaps not the first incarnation of the Doctor. Later, during the Seventh Doctor adventures, it was said, by hints that the Doctor might be more than just a Time Lord. Then in the TV movie of 1996 , it is said that Dr is half-human side of his mother. This latest revelation was strongly contested, and some fans went to say that Doctor was still reeling from his regeneration in this reply. However, he becomes truly human in the episode The Family of Blood ( 2007 ). The first episode of the series, An Unearthly Child , revealed that the Doctor has a granddaughter, Susan Foreman. In 2006 , in episode 2012 London , the Doctor admits that he was father in the past. In 2008 , in the episode The Doctor's Daughter, one discovers his daughter Jenny ( Georgia Moffett , daughter of Peter Davison ). The new series has asserted in 2005 that the Doctor is the last Time Lord , which proved to be false later. One also learns that his planet was destroyed. In the episode "Forest Of The Dead we learn that the Doctor has revealed his true name to River Song, that i t has not yet met because of his travels in time, but then meet. The Doctor also says in this episode he can not give his real name in only one occasion.

The Companions

Doctor shares almost all of his adventures with more than three companions , and since 1963 , over 35 actors and actresses have played these roles. Originally, the companions of the First Doctor was his granddaughter Susan Foreman (Carole Ann Ford) and professors Barbara Wright (Jacqueline Hill) and Ian Chesterton (William Russell). The only story in the old series, where the Doctor travels alone is The Deadly Assassin.

These companions provide viewers with characters they can identify. The Doctor sees some companions to leave, while others arrive in the course of his adventures ... Some return home or find new causes - or love - on worlds they have visited. Others have also died during their adventures.

Although the majority of the companions of the Doctor were young women, in the old series ( 1963 - 1 989 ), it has always been avoided as the Doctor had romantic relationships with them. This taboo has been broken in 1996 when the Eighth Doctor kisses his wife, Grace Holloway.

Sometimes old companions reappear, mostly in off-season episodes. However, the couple formed by Sarah Jane Smith and the robot dog K-9 , already appeared in a single television movie , made their return in an episode of 2006 , more than 20 years after their last appearance in the episode of the 20 anniversary years of the series The Five Doctors ( 1983 ). Then, these characters were brought to the fore in a spinoff series for youth, The Sarah Jane Adventures.

The companions are the Eleventh Doctor Amy Pond ( Karen Gillan ) and Rory Williams ( Arthur Darvill ).

Enemies

When Sydney Newman created the series, he wanted to avoid the cliches of alien monsters, appearing very often in science fiction. However, they soon became a staple of Doctor Who, much appreciated by the public.

The main opponents of the Doctor in the old series, are the Auton , the Cybermen , the Sontariens the Zygon , the Silurians , the Wirrn , the Yeti , the Master (a Time Lord with a thirst for universal conquest), and The most notable, the Daleks with or without their creator Davros. This tradition continued monsters with the new series, which reappeared the Daleks , the Cybermen , the Master but also AutoNation, the Sontarans and Macra, ansi that new enemies such as the Slitheen, Judoon and the weeping angels.

The Cybermen

Main article: Cybermen.

The Cybermen were originally a totally organic species from the planet Mondas, the twin of Earth. However, they had implanted more and more electronic elements to become fully robotic, and neglecting the feelings of thirst for violence.

In the new series, the Cybermen are human, but from a parallel universe.

The Daleks

Main article: Daleks.

The most iconic creatures and recurring series are the Daleks. Hailing from the planet Skaro, they are locked in a mutant humanoid mechanical armor.

Davros, the creator of the Daleks , has become a recurring enemy of the Doctor , having been introduced in Genesis of the Daleks, an episode where the Time Lords send the Doctor in the past so it prevents the creation of the Daleks, or unless it makes them less dangerous. This episode shows how Davros eliminates all their emotions into killing machines that endlessly repeat the slogan: "Exterminate!". Davros was working initially for the victory of his camp, Kaled, in a civil war on Skaros, but he and his creatures are dedicated to progressive destruction of all other life forms. In his last appearance in season 4, Davros wants nothing less than "destroy reality" ...

Over the seasons, the Doctor or his companions and the Daleks exterminated several times but they were recreated in various ways by survivors or Davros himself.

The Daleks were created by the writer Terry Nation (who saw them as a representation of the Nazis (indeed, in the episode " Journey's End , can be heard shouting their slogan Dalek "Exterminate!" in German.)), and by designer Raymond Cusick of the BBC. They made their debut in the second episode, The Daleks ( 1,963 - 1 964 ), and their appearance was not for little in the popularity of Doctor Who. A stamp depicting a Dalek was even created in 1999.

The Master

Main article: The Master (Doctor Who).

The Master is an evil Time Lord. It appeared for the first time in 1971. Just as Dr. , the role was played by different actors, the first being Roger Delgado, who played until his death in 1973. The Master was then briefly played by Peter Pratt and Geoffrey Beevers, before Anthony Ainley takes the role, until the end of the series in 1989. The Master was back in 1996 , in the TV movie The Lord of Time , where he was played by Eric Roberts. In the finale of Season 3 in 2007 , he was played by Derek Jacobi and John Simm. In the latest episodes of David Tennant , The Prophecy of Christmas , it is again played by John Simm. We learn elsewhere in these episodes where does the sound of drums beating in four-stroke (heart rate of a Time Lord ), he hears from his childhood and the crazy.

Extraterrestrial Races

Vehicles

In several episodes of old series, the Doctor has had to use several car outside his Tardis.

  • The Bessie: A car based on a limited set of Ford E93A with a body, yellow canary, like Edwardian (time of King Edward VII ) used in episodes of the third Doctor ( Jon Pertwee ): "The Silurians"; " The Ambassador of Death "," Inferno "," Terror of Auton "" The Mind of Evil "" The Daemons "," The Time Monster "," The Three Doctors "" The Green Death "and" Planet of the spiders. Also in the episode "Robot" with the Fourth Doctor ( Tom Baker ), "The Five Doctors", "Battlefield" with the seventh Doctor ( Sylvester McCoy ) and "Dimensions in Time, at the 30th anniversary of the series.

  • The Whomobile: A sort of hovercraft on the road with a futuristic look used twice by the third Doctor: Invasion of the Dinosaurs "and" Planet of the Spiders ". Property of Jon Pertwee. When the penny left the series, he went with him.

  • A vehicle intended for the mountainous terrain of Austria: A Steyr-Daimler-Puch Haflinger 700 AP 4x4 (vehicle plate) in "Colony in Space" with the third Doctor.

  • A scooter is also used by the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant) and Rose in the episode of Season 2 "The hysteria of the strange skylight"

Music

Main theme

The radio recording of 1963 's Doctor Who theme is recognized as an important piece of innovative electronic music. Moreover, Doctor Who was the first television series in the world to have a theme made entirely with electronic instruments.

The original theme was composed by Ron Grainer and realized by Delia Derbyshire, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and assistance from Dick Mills.

A more modern and dynamic arrangement of this theme was composed by Peter Howell for Season 18 ( 1980 ). It was replaced by Dominic Glynn composition for the fourteen episodes The Trial of a Time Lord ( 1986 ), season 23. Keff McCulloch provided a new arrangement for the Seventh Doctor. This latter interpretation of the season lasted 24 ( in 1987 ) to the stop series in 1989. However, during the TV movie of 1996 , The Lord of Time is a new theme that was used, composed by John Debney , but still based on that of Ron Grainer , even if he is not credited.

For the new series, Murray Gold has done since 2005 several successive orchestral arrangements, all based on the theme of electronic original 1963 , with new elements.

Sound Effects

Doctor Who is a sci-fi, this implies the creation of many sounds, even if some its quite common (such as crowds, horses and jungle noises) did not need to be recreated, since 'they were taken from existing recordings.

Since the series began several years before the mass arrival of synthesizers, most of the equipment to create electronic sound effects were altered by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop , until early 1970.

Most of the sounds of the series for the years 1960 were created by Brian Hodgson of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. He worked on the series since its inception until the middle of the period of Jon Pertwee (Third Doctor), in early 1970. He was succeeded by Dick Mills. Hodgson has created hundreds of sounds, ranging from laser gun to dinosaurs. What can be said that the most notable of his creations are nothing but the sound of the TARDIS as it moves, as well as the metallic voice of the Daleks.

The noise of the TARDIS was created by Hodgson by scraping with the keys to her home the strings of an old piano, and playing the recorded sound in reverse. The voice of the Daleks , for its part, was created by playing with recorded voices, and expand after having passed through a special device.

Comments

Genuine cult hit in UK , Doctor Who is sci-fi the longest in the history of British television. However, this series from the very British humor has been only "confidential France.

The series was at its most popular in the late 1970 , with an audience of about 12 million people. On BBC One , the series never dipped below the 3 million viewers. However, in late 1980 , even hearings between 3 and 5 million were considered poor and contributed to the decision of the series in 1989. Broadcasting on BBC One episode of the Rose , the first of the new series in 2005 , attracted an average audience: 10.81 million viewers, the 3rd most-watched program on BBC One that week and seventh on all channels. Novels and new

Main article: News of Doctor Who novels.

In the United Kingdom in the early success of the series, many books were added to existing products. However, in France, only 8 Doctor Who books were published in 1989 :

  • Doctor Who comes on the scene
  • The Crusaders
  • The Daleks
  • Daleks invade the Earth
  • The Brain of Morbius
  • The Masque of Mandragora
  • The Abominable Snowman
  • Meglos

It is in fact novelizations of episodes of the series, not untold stories.

Films and television

The movies

There were two films Dr. Who in movies: Dr. Who and the Daleks in 1965 and The Daleks invade Earth in 1966. Both were essentially remakes of already existing stories in the series, while changing many concepts in the series.

In these films, Peter Cushing plays a human scientist named Dr. Who, who travels with her two granddaughters in a machine to travel back in time that he invented. In view of this and many other changes, contradicting the subsequent developments in the series, these films are not considered in the continuity of the series, although the interpretation of Peter Cushing was back in comics and books, which combine movies and series.

A third film, The Chase, also adapted from an episode of the series, was planned, where the character of Dr. Who was resumed. However, the project was canceled following the commercial failure of the second film in U.S. box office.

After discontinuation of the old series in 1989 , many Doctor Who film projects were built. Some already offered, as a major element of the film, the destruction of Gallifrey and the Doctor find themselves the last of his kind. This idea was subsequently resumed in 2005 at the launch of the new series.

The Movie: The Lord of Time

In 1996 , producer Philip Segal hoped to revive the series by producing in the United States. However, the only channel carrying a minimum of interest in the series was Fox. However, the latter was willing to produce one TV movie. It was hoped that if the film was a success, Fox would have seen his point of view ... Unfortunately, the TV movie did not work in the United States , and proposed a new Doctor Who series ended there, despite a large audience in the UK.

In this television movie , directed by Geoffrey Sax , there are brief Seventh Doctor ( Sylvester McCoy ), but mostly we find the Eighth Doctor, played by Paul McGann. This was the only time we saw him on screen, even if we could follow his adventures in many books, and adventures in audio. It was so Dr official 1996 to 2005. In the film, he must confront Eric Roberts , the fourth actor to play the Master.

Derived Series

Doctor Who appeared on stage many times. From the early 1970 , Trevor Martin played in Doctor Who and the Daleks in the Seven Keys to Doomsday, along with Wendy Padbury , who had already played a companion of the Third Doctor. Then, around 1990 , Jon Pertwee and Colin Baker , two former doctors , resumed their roles in a musical called Doctor Who - The Ultimate Adventure. When Jon Pertwee was ill and could not play, which happened twice, David Banks replaced him. The latter was known to have played repeatedly Cybermen. Many other parts enthusiasts were born, where other actors played the Doctor. Terry Nation also wrote a play, The Curse of the Daleks, which was played in the late 1960. However, the Doctor was not present.

A pilot episode of a possible spin-off , K-9 And Company , was released in 1981. It was Elisabeth Sladen , reprising the role of Sarah Jane Smith , a former companion of Doctor and John Leeson as the voice robot dog K-9. However, the series stopped at the driver.

Since mid 1960 , many Doctor Who books have been published. From 2005 and the launch of the new series BBC Books has published a new book collection, with the Ninth Doctor and Tenth Doctor.

During the years 1980 , some drawings have been produced to create an animated Doctor Who. Again, the project failed.

The Doctor has also appeared in webcasts and audio books. Most of these creations are from Big Finish Productions , which since 1999 is responsible for the coins released in audio CD. Their production is often the voice of an old Doctor , as Tom Baker and Paul McGann. However, the mini-series hosted Scream Of The Shalk ( 2003 ), available free on the website of the BBC , has posted another Doctor , Richard E. Grant.

After the success of the new series in 2005 , the BBC asked Russell T Davies , Doctor Who producer and writer of many episodes, to produce a 13-episode spinoff called Torchwood (an anagram of Doctor Who), which takes place today in Wales. The main characters will investigate alien activity. The series began on BBC Three on 22 October 2006. John Barrowman will resume the role of Captain Jack Harkness , a character appearing in 2005 in Doctor Who. The shooting took place during the summer and autumn 2006. Two other players appear in Doctor Who Torchwood : Eve Myles , who played a servant in the episode Deaths unfulfilled , and Naoko Mori , who reprises the role of Toshiko Sato , already appeared in Aliens of London.

The second season of Torchwood has started airing from January 2008. Freema Agyeman will appear in three episodes in the role of Martha Jones.

A new children's series, K-9 , is in development. However, it is not produced by the BBC. This series will be a mixture of real image and computer graphics. The first release of this new spin-off will begin around January 2010.

The Sarah Jane Adventures with Elisabeth Sladen , always interpreting Sarah Jane Smith , has been developed by CBBC and the first episode was aired the day of the Year in 2007. The regular release of the first season of this series, instead aiming for an audience of teenagers, began on 24 September 2007.

A cartoon, The Infinite Quest , aired during the year 2007 in the children's show Totally Doctor Who. This program also offers other programs for younger fans of the series, such as small documentary on the history of the series.

Another spinoff, where we followed the child's doctor on his home planet, Gallifrey , was suspended by the producer Russell T Davies. However, similar scenes were seen in the finale of season 3, but where is the child of Master.

Two other series, Doctor Who Confidential and Torchwood Declassified cover the making of the series which they are attached.

Review of spin-offs of Doctor Who:

Special Episodes

The first special episode of the series dating back to November 25, 1983, for the 20th anniversary of Doctor Who. This is the episode The Five Doctors , lasting 90 minutes, bringing the first five "doctors" of the series ( Richard Hurndall who reprises the role of William Hartnell , Patrick Troughton , Jon Pertwee , Tom Baker and Peter Davison ).

Two years later, February 23, 1985, another special episode is born. Only a 9-minute, he called A fix With Sontarans, featuring a known enemy of the Doctor, the Sontariens.
