Baugeste Daniel (1948-2007) is a French contemporary artist. He participated in both the free figuration and motion graffiti born, he broke into the art world in 1982 by diverting 4 x 3 posters in the Paris metro. Until 1986, he stepped up interventions in situ, in Paris but also in Beijing and Tokyo (1985).

After having "hijacked" the facade of City Hall Saint-Quentin (Aisne), he showed in galleries and cultural venues silhouettes and visual advertising. Among the most notable exhibitions, the Cultural Centre Gemini at Sceaux (1986), presented in a full black silhouettes highly colored. Preface to the book published by Editions Alternatives, William Burroughs wrote, in prophetic "Baugeste Daniel is a painter for years and eighty-ninety." And he added, "We think Salle, Chia, Haring, as well as Klein and Matthew ... and finally we think BAU GESTE his name so much about her future and immense."

Working in series, he made numerous exhibitions in the following years: Aftermath and Ruins at Loft Gallery , Paris, Mocks at Anna Thiel , Boston, redemption and Renaissance in Paris, Legendary Pictures, Lyon. In 2000, the Maillol Museum hosted the exhibition for a large, Ready B, where this time, it diverted more advertising works but the most emblematic pieces of Duchamp.

Biography

Literary and visual sociologist by training, Daniel Baugeste poses in his work the issue of how art in our society, its status, its methods, its sometimes arbitrary and its omnipresence in the recent social and cultural space.

He could write essays on the sociology of art, instead he chose to do both from the inside - it is art - and on the very field of his thinking: the street, society, the fact that "media-advertising".

It will directly intervene on this new 20 th century: "the media" generator according to the artist of the "third revolution in the history of humanity" after the discovery of agriculture and the machinery of the nineteenth century , and this, in that it modifies, as the first two, the behavior of man without his knowledge.

Since the early 80's, Daniel Baugeste presented its worldwide hijackings, using media technology. Going from Paris to Paris by the Great Wall of China , Saint-Quentin , the Tiananmen Square , Boston, New York or Tokyo, the graffiti-star simulationist company continues its pictorial sub-version of what our society shows us when it sells its present. Looting, erasing or highlighting ... by in situ or in workshop, it obliterates the present to better reveal the plot. The specularity acting as a developer, can lay bare the essence of the spectacular, always in a present already exceeded its futility and simulacra. The approach remains unique, although increasingly accepted, then imitated.
