The Myth

Fleeing prosecution following the death of his nephew Talos , he had thrown from the top of the Acropolis, jealous of his discoveries that he wants to take, Daedalus finds refuge in Crete with the court of King Minos. Pasiphae The king's wife, asked him to create a wooden cow, a lure for her to mate with the white bull. Thus was born the Minotaur, a creature monstrous hybrid. Minos then ordered him to create a maze to lock up this aberration of nature.

Daedalus gave the solution to the maze to Ariane , using the famous breadcrumb. The latter gave it to Theseus , who used it to escape the labyrinth after killing the Minotaur. Minos had lost his bet with Theseus, he then shut Daedalus and his son Icarus in the labyrinth. Unable to get out of wireless guide to the exit, Daedalus conceived the idea of wings to fly to. Since these wings were made up with wax and feathers, Daedalus advised his son not to go too high in the sky. Icarus sought instead to get closer to the sun, which had the effect of melting the wax and the rush into the sea

Daedalus took refuge in Sicily to the king Cocalos. Infuriated by this leak, Minos decided to find Daedalus. To achieve this he used the ruse. He then had the idea to launch a challenge that only a man like Daedalus could succeed. He promised a large reward to anyone who successfully attach a wire to the back of a snail shell. To meet the challenge, Daedalus had the idea to hook the wire to an ant, then sneaking it into the shell.

Knowing that a person had passed the challenge to Sicily, Minos then knew Daedalus that was there. The King however refused to deliver Cocalos Daedalus, which provoked a war between Sicily and Crete. According to a different tradition, Cocalos would set a trap to Minos. He tried to invite him to give him Daedalus, and invited him to share the bathroom of her three daughters. But that Daedalus had made the tub and scalded Minos died.

Analysis
