Santa Maria delle Grazie is a church in Milan. The church and monastery were founded around 1463 by the Dominicans on land donated by Gasparo Vimercati. On this ground was already a chapel dedicated to a miraculous image of Our Lady of Mercy (Vergine delle Grazie). This chapel was preserved and incorporated into the new building and the church dedicated to Santa Maria delle Grazie .
In 1492, on the orders of Lodovico Sforza, the apse of the church (including the choir and transept) are demolished. The new apse is achieved by Bramante. The dome has a diameter of 20 m and a height of 40 m.
Between 1886 and 1895, a restoration campaign is conducted under the direction of Luca Beltrami (who we also owe the restoration of the Castello Sforzesco ).

In the old chapel, the Chapel of the Rosary (Cappella del Rosario), we always find the image on the altar which was considered miraculous by the Milanese. At the entrance to the chapel Giovanni Battista Crespi , said Cerano, painted with a painting of his studio the Vergine delle Grazie.

The fourth chapel on the right had been made available to the Congregation of the Holy Crown by the Dominicans. The congregation had commissioned Titian the Crowning of thorns now in the Louvre . The chapel was decorated by Gaudenzio Ferrari. The theme is the passion of Christ, with a Crucifixion on one side and the other an Ecce Homo and Flagellation.

Found in the refectory Last Supper of Leonardo da Vinci (as well as the Crucifixion by Giovanni Donato Montorfano). The assembly is placed on the list of World Heritage of Humanity established by UNESCO.
