Chris Marker, born Christian Bouche-Villeneuve, 29 July 1921 at Neuilly-sur-Seine ( Hauts-de-Seine ) is a French filmmaker and photographer, also a writer. He is the author of numerous documentary films, films that are testing the very personal style, including the pier , the bottom of the air is red , no sun ... He toured around the world (China, Cuba, Japan ...), showing the reality of the world in films where the commentary is as important as the images.

His international fame came with the short film La Jete ( 1962 ), which tells of scientific experiments to conduct time travel in a post-apocalyptic world. The only fiction Marker is paradoxically his most famous work and one which he says only learn to regret the broadcast. The shape of this film is a montage of still images, which follows a series of "photographs" giving it a very special atmosphere and deeply original, though disconcerting. Through the process of voiceover narration, that Mark uses in many of his works, the author manages to convey in his film's literary talent.
