Summary

Description

The monastery was founded by Tommaso Sanseverino in 1306 on the existing site of a monastery dedicated to St. Lawrence. The history of the building covers a period of about 450 years. Its facade is of a Mannerist completed in late 1723. Inside the monastery was built around two spaces called, the "low house" dedicated to the lay brothers responsible for the administrative part and the "high house" where the fathers lived in the contemplation and silence.

Past the outdoor courtyard, one reaches the "low house" with the cloister Foresteria; of great interest is the Church of St. Lawrence retains a door in Lebanon cedar of XVI century inserted into a portal stone Cinquecento and a special altar carved stone accented with pearls and lapis lazuli. The kitchen retains a large fireplace lined majolica from the old chapter house, the legend says there was an omelette prepared a thousand eggs References
