Training
The cenotes are produced by a process of dissolution and collapse of land limestone located above an underground network of caves and rivers. They are found both in picturesque places in the jungle ( Celestun , Yucatan ) in town ( Valladolid , Yucatn ).
In Yucatn, a ring of cenotes is disposed concentrically around the Chicxulub crater , as does one blames his training at the meteorite fell there about 65 million years - one that assumes it has caused (indirectly) the extinction of dinosaurs.
When the opening of a cenote is located below the surface of a pond (lagoon, lake, sea), it appears as a darker spot, it is called Blue Hole (Blue Hole ) or black hole (black hole) according to the perceived color.
Cenotes in the Maya
The Mayans believed these wells as a means of communication with the gods of the infra-world, the chasm representing a mouth. They were used as fresh water supply, but also as a place of worship in which offerings were thrown or sacrificial victims.
