Etymology

In Greece

France

In the Middle Ages

The Agents

The Agents (or Ushers) were involved in recruitment of brothels. The women worked all day. They slept most often in a bench or in the attic .

The One Two Two and the Sphinx

From 1939 , the brothels are aware of the shortage of customers. To attract the male population and easy, a new kind of houses appeared: the one-two-two , cabaret brothel, where great names meet, such as Colette , Marlene Dietrich , Jean Gabin , Sacha Guitry and others. The house has ten rooms, twenty-two rooms and houses sixty inmates .

In Belgium

In Belgium the brothels are officially banned but tolerated in practice they are. These establishments, known as "private" also attract prostitutes and French customers fleeing the repression that has hardened in France after 2003. In Switzerland

These institutions exist in Switzerland and are called "erotic shows". Their existence is legal since the crime of pimping has been dropped from the Swiss Penal Code in 1992.
