Blek Le Rat
Blek le Rat (Xavier Prou pseudonym, inspired by the cartoon character Blek le roc ) is a graffiti stencil French , initiator of the urban art.
He began painting in 1981 , first with a friend under the collective name of Blek, then himself. In 1992 , he was sentenced to a heavy fine in criminal court for "damaging property belonging to others." Therefore, he no longer painted directly on walls, on posters, but then it sticks.
His paintings are usually anonymous or famous figures, life size.
Today his work affects thousands of urban artists in the world and it is not surprising to find in London , New York or Tokyo artists who claim to belong to his school. These include British artist Banksy : "Every time I paint something I discover that Blek le Rat has done just 20 years before! .
