The National Archaeological Museum of Naples is a museum dedicated primarily to classical antiquity which houses one of the largest collections of Greco-Roman existing in the world.
It is housed in the Palazzo degli Studi, one of the major monumental palaces of the historic center of Naples. His background has gradually expanded around a core consisting of the original collection Farnese collections and Pompeii.

In the late eighteenth century , Charles III , King of Naples, heir by his mother Elizabeth Farnese , comes into possession of all property of the Farnese House of Rome and Parma , including, inter alia, a superb collection of paintings and one of the finest collections of antiquities. Some years after his accession to the throne of Naples in 1734 , he started from 1738 , archaeological excavations at Herculaneum which give rise to a collection just as prestigious as the previous one.
