Amedeo Maiuri
Amedeo Maiuri, born in 1886 in Veroli and died on 7 April 1963 at Naples , was an archaeologist Italian.
Amedeo Maiuri is responsible between 1913 and 1924 an archaeological expedition in the Aegean , with the office of Director of the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes and superintendent of the Excavations Dodecanese , under Italian occupation at the time. After these activities, he returned to Italy , where he oversaw the position of Director of National Museum of Naples (1924-61) and directs the excavations allowed the discovery of the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum (1924 to 1961) and the Villa Jovis on the island of Capri. Subsequently, he became a member of the Accademia dei Lincei.
