Abu Mena Abu Mena or is an ancient city of Egypt built over the tomb of the martyr Menas of Alexandria who died in 296.
It has many buildings including a monastery Christian.
The city is about 45 km southwest of Alexandria.
The ruins were inscribed on the World Heritage List by the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO in 1979.
Recent work in agricultural sector of the archaeological site have led to a significant elevation of groundwater by collapse or become unstable, a number of buildings.
In 2001 , the site was added to the list of World Heritage in Danger.
